Taking Baby Steps to ECM Success...
Generally, everything starts out small - babies, seedlings, ideas, and project plans, to name just a few. Many enterprise content management (ECM) implementations start out as small concepts, too. Sometimes, by starting small, organizations can get a firm grasp on the intricacies of a project. No one decides on a whim to install and start using an ECM system. Careful planning, investigating, and testing go into the process. As the article, Rome Wasn't Built in a Day explains, “Enterprise content management (ECM) is not a silver bullet. It does not solve the problems surrounding managing and using your information overnight. It is not implemented in a day.” Just as a baby grows and takes his first steps, an ECM project matures and hopefully becomes a source of solid ROI that can become a model for the rest of the organization. And, like a parent who gives a toddler advice and shows him how to take his first steps, a proven way to guarantee the success of your ECM project is to nurture and educate your staff through training. In the Manager’s ECM Training Checklist: Six Ways to Ensure Success, specific points and questions to ask yourself are provided with the following main topics in mind: 1.) Understand the difference between education and training 2.) Establish training goals 3.) Match proposed training benefits with expectations 4.) Choose the right environment for learning 5.) Choose the right trainer 6.) Measure the impact The bottom line: First steps are always a little wobbly in the beginning, but with proper planning and training, you’ll take off running with your ECM project!
