Getting Back to the Basics of ECM...
"Make paper-intensive business processes paperless, and less intensive." Huh? Can you repeat that? Alright, we'll admit it...that's actually a sentence that once appeared on our DocFinity website. Kind of ridiculous sounding, isn't it? Unfortunately, when you're immersed in the ECM industry, you often get swallowed up by the acronyms and the marketing buzzwords. We might take for granted that everyone knows what EDMS, ECM, and all of the other acronyms mean. To people on the outside, it can start to sound like Klingon or some other unintelligible language. So, how do you break through the jargon and get to the real facts about ECM? Sometimes you need to get back to basics. Take a look at the article, Document Management 101: What is document management and how can it benefit me? It provides some basic explanations about the pieces and parts that make up an integrated document management strategy and how they fit together. Or, read the post, ECM? EDRM? EC3M? It explains how a lot of the acronyms, ECM, EDMS, ERM, KM, etc. are really just different ways of explaining the same underlying technology. If you still want to get a little more basic than that, check out Enterprise Content Management (ECM) Definitions or Acronym Mania. The bottom line: Review these resources that cut through the clutter about document management technology. In the meantime, we'll do our best to keep jargon and buzzwords to a minimum and provide you with straight-to-the-point information and advice on EDMS, ECM, ERM, or whatever it is everyone's calling it this week. Talk to us: If you've got additional questions about the differences between EDMS, ECM, or ERM, or you'd like to find out what makes DocFinity different, contact us. Missed a past issue?
