Choose an ECM vendor that provides top quality support

Make sure your staff is truly thankful for the investment you make in your ECM system by choosing a vendor with a great support team.

It's Thanksgiving time. Most of us take time to be grateful for the usual things - family, friends, having a job in this tough economy - hopefully the list goes on and on for you. 

But how can you help your employees and colleagues to be thankful in your office year round? Set them up with an enterprise content management (ECM) system to make their working lives easier. 

If you want to provide your employees with the best ECM system, you'll need to choose one that not only includes the right features and functionality, but also comes with a high-quality support team. Take a look at the Manager's Checklist: Get the Support You Need to Succeed with ECM for some advice about choosing an ECM vendor with strong technical support. The checklist includes some obvious considerations, as well as some points that you may not have thought about...including: 

  • Ask for references from clients whose organizational size and needs are similar to yours. What percentage of their customers have they retained for longer than three years? Five years? Ten?

  • Ask the vendor about support procedures, and ask their references the same question. How do the answers compare?

  • What types of support are available? Online? Telephone? Customer forums? Mentoring relationships?

  • Does the vendor offer live, personal support? Will your organization be provided with a dedicated support representative - one that saves you time by understanding your organization and its goals?

  • Is 24/7 support available? How do office hours and differences in time zones affect the quality of support?

The bottom line:

Make sure your staff will be truly thankful for the investment you make in your ECM system. Take the time to research the quality of support that your chosen vendor offers. Because, regardless of your level of technical expertise, your staff will probably need to rely on the ECM vendor support team at some point in time. Now is the time to ensure that it’s a good fit.
