It's all about choosing the right team...

As much of the world focuses on the final stages of the Tour de France, this edition of Take Five will focus on teamwork. (Don’t worry…we’re not going to talk about team building activities where you need to drop your staff in the middle of the forest and make them find their way back to the office...even if it may be tempting!) We’re going to focus on the importance of choosing appropriate members of your team and communicating with those team members throughout all of the stages of the project.

In the Tour de France, every rider is strategically selected to perform certain duties for the team, from sprinting, to climbing the daunting mountains, to – often without much attention, but so important – protecting the team leader. Each of these team members works towards a common goal – for the team to succeed and wear the coveted yellow jersey. Sometimes it’s challenging to work with a team. There are different strengths and weaknesses, with a low likelihood of personal recognition. An example from the Tour de France that epitomizes the concept is Team CSC with their motto of " Communication, Collaboration, and Teamwork". A successful enterprise content management (ECM) project revolves around this same concept.

The article, Best Practices for Enterprise Content Management: Advice from the Trenches, explains how "communication, collaboration, and teamwork" are some of the key factors in a successful business process analysis and implementation. Building the right team between the various departments and levels of your organization and with your vendors can be the difference between a project that fails and one that flourishes. Choosing the team members with the proper strengths to perform the needed tasks, just like the teams in the Tour, is of the utmost importance. Read this article.

And, while we’re on the subject of the connection between cycling and ECM, take a moment to check out the "Cycle Faster" initiative. The program features several scanning, capture, and imaging companies pulling together to support the Lance Armstrong Foundation and other organizations.
