Optical Image Technology Receives Benchmark Title in Doculabs COLD Study
STATE COLLEGE, PA: Optical Image Technology, Inc. (OIT) went head to head with nine competing software vendors in the recent Doculabs special report on COLD products. Once again, OptiFICHE, OIT's COLD Module, was very highly rated and labeled a "Benchmark", or industry leader, for their data extraction capabilities.
OptiFICHE was featured for the second time in this prestigious benchmark study. "The importance of this study lies on Doculabs' non-biased research" says Scott Buchart, President of OIT. "The side by side comparison and hands-on assessment makes this an important tool for anyone searching for a COLD system." Another important feature of the study is the fact that Doculabs not only rates the product's strengths but also gives a market's perspective for desired features. "This feature is very important as it allows us to introduce new technology markets are requesting" says Mr. Buchart.
The comparison is broken down into several areas, including: Application Focus, Technological Implementation Issues and Operational Issues. OptiFICHE was rated on a scale of one to ten (ten being the highest) in each of these categories. The grade was determined by averaging the scores rated in several sections that made up each category. For example, under Application Focus, OptiFICHE received a benchmark in the section Data Analysis Support. "OptiFICHE.provides advanced data extraction.[and] allows extracted data from different reports to be combined, manipulated, reformatted, and analyzed," declares Doculabs. OIT accredits this accomplishment to the 1996 Doculabs' study. That study suggested that OIT focus on adding new features for data extraction and now OptiFICHE offers the most advanced technology in this area.
Overall, OptiFICHE was very highly rated in all categories. Under Technological Implementation Issues, which is made up of Compatibility to Existing Systems, General Ease of Use and Openness, Doculabs reports, "OptiFICHE provides a very open NT-based system with a fully published database schema. This turnkey system is easy to use, while also providing the customizability of a toolkit." Also, under Operational Issues, which is broken down to Processing and Retrieval Volumes and Database Size, Doculabs announces, "OptiFICHE uses 32-bit multi-threaded Windows NT Servers for processing [and] provides high-volume processing and retrievals."
OptiFICHE is a scalable solution for any computer-generated report intensive industry. It eliminates the need to print reports and the need of microfiche. OptiFICHE allows users to archive, index, store and retrieve computer output data onto any storage media, CD-ROM, etc. Features include average compression of over 80%, extensive logging and security, forms overlays, email, Xerox Metacode/DJDE and IBM AFP capability. An automated report-processing module along with an easy to use report definition module increases the program's ease of use. Multi, user-defined indexes provide flexibility that allows storage and retrieval of any information.
Other products in Optical Image Technology's Total Solution for Document Management include OptiIMAGE (Document Imaging), IntraVIEWER (Internet/Intranet/Extranet Access), OptiFLOW (Enterprise-wide Job Flow), ObjectSERVE (Hierarchical Storage Management), ObjectPRINT (Print/Fax Server), and InfoVIEW (Enhanced Data Mining). Optical Image Technology has been leading the Document Management industry since 1986. All of their products are developed in-house for seamless integration, and all are designed with open architecture, SQL database compatibility, and extensive table-based security. These features allow OIT to meet the changing needs and budgets of any size business.
