2005 Process Innovation Award Given to South Carolina BlueCross for Their Use of DocFinity®
BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina received award for their document management solution
STATE COLLEGE, Pa – November 11, 2005 – Kinetic Information LLC awarded a first-place Process Innovation Award to BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina (BlueCross) yesterday. BlueCross won the international award for the innovative application of the DocFinity suite of workflow and document management solutions. BlueCross has implemented the DocFinity solutions across five major business units at an enterprise scale. The DocFinity solutions are developed and supported by Optical Image Technology, Inc. (OIT).
Steve Weissman, president of Kinetic Information LLC, explained that the Process Innovation Awards were created in 1996 and are designed to honor superior applications for their business effectiveness. Winners were selected by an independent panel of industry experts based on process improvements that lead to gains in at least one of the following areas: productivity, profitability, ability to adapt to market conditions, or competitive standing/market share. The awards were co-sponsored by IMERGE Consulting.
“Our awards are bestowed on organizations that not only use technology in a basic way, but apply it in an innovative fashion as well,” said Weissman. “BlueCross was honored for deploying a cutting-edge solution that enabled it to meet its business goals.”
Recipient BlueCross is the largest Medicare and TRICARE claims processor in the United States and employer of more than 13,000. Beginning in 2003, BlueCross and OIT worked together to plan and develop a comprehensive electronic document management solution utilizing DocFinity for imaging, workflow, and other products that met their business challenges. This innovative solution has been successfully integrated into five critical areas of the organization, including property and casualty application processing; a paperless (digital) mailroom; matching medical record requests with receipts; technical service center help desk task prioritization; and timely check deposits. These solutions have been so successful in improving efficiency, service, and decreasing costs, that they are now being broadened throughout the entire organization.
“At first we were just trying to help out one line of business with an out-of-the-box solution for work management but as we started working with DocFinity we began to see the potential it brought to paperless processing in all areas of our company,” said Anne Castro, chief design architect for BlueCross. “We look forward to the complete integration of this product, which will enable the removal of all paper in our operational areas.”
“All of us at OIT are proud to see a customer leverage our technology in such an advanced, enterprise-wide method,” said Scott Buchart, president of OIT. “It is rewarding to all of our staff to see a customer of ours receive such recognition for a job well done.”
Headquartered in Columbia, S.C., BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina (www.SouthCarolinaBlues.com) is an independent licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association, an association of independent Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans.
