Taking the Guesswork Out of Forms

State College, Pa.- Optical Image Technology, Inc. (OIT), developers of the award-wining DocFinity® Suite of Products, is taking the guesswork out of managing business-critical information from forms for its customers through the innovative use of TIFF overlays.

The DocFinity Viewer component of OIT’s IntraVIEWER Web Client provides users with the ability to view all components of an electronically presented form, without the absence of vital fields. This allows users access to all available information required to process forms without having to second-guess entries or resort to supporting documentation for data, such as name fields and labels, sometimes made illegible through the scanning process.

TIFF overlaying via the DocFinity Suite allows administrators to take stored images and merge them on top of the original. This process, which entails scanning a blank form into the system and overlaying it onto the original document, makes all fields visible to the end user. The administrator can also specify the conditions for which the overlays are applied, including the use of multiple overlays for a single document.

The benefits of the process lie in the ability to decrease the space required to digitally store a document. At the time of retrieval, the data and overlay are merged to create a seamless form for a user. TIFF overlaying also enhances the ability to use OCR applications, which feature form drop out functions, and increases the efficiency of these programs, which work better in the absence of additional clutter from form backgrounds.

DJ Wilson, an Implementation Analyst for OIT, remarks, “The use of TIFF overlays through the DocFinity Viewer not only improves the accuracy of end users, it also assists other applications in becoming more efficient through maximizing the effectiveness of software features through reducing clutter in the file.”

OIT customers primarily use TIFF merging in the healthcare industry to manage forms such as HCFAs and UB-92s. For more information on TIFF merging, please refer to www.docfinity.com.
