How It Works

While most EMR/EHR products are good at what they do, they are not very good at electronic document management (EDM). They tend to lack true functional imaging and document management tools, and do not offer robust workflow or capture abilities. All of these features are standard components of the DocFinity® EDM system.

The DocFinity HL7 Module enables the DocFinity system to interface with clinical, laboratory, imaging, and other medical applications using the industry standard messaging protocol. Electronic health information is shared, retrieved, and exchanged behind the scenes, enabling users to work within their familiar software applications and eliminating the need to learn complicated new programs.

As new patients are registered with admissions, HL7 messages can be immediately passed to DocFinity to facilitate the creation of new patient folders within the DocFinity repository (which can also house records from the business side of your facility), trigger workflows, and update EHR/EMR applications with the new records. As records are created using various healthcare applications, they, too, can be added to DocFinity via HL7. Lab results, patient demographics, risk factors, and other records can all be electronically captured and used to update patient assessment records in every department. The result: simplified processes for end users; patient records are created and updated behind the scenes to ensure that files are accessible, complete, and free of error.
